Early Years (Reception)

Fox Wood School provides a broad and balanced education for pupils from 4 - 19 years of age. Our youngest pupils follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework which incorporates 7 areas of learning and development. These are:
  • Maths
  • Literacy
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development (PD)
  • Personal, Social and Emotional development (PSED)
  • Understanding of the World (UTW)
  • Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)
The school day includes differentiated lessons relating to these areas, in which pupils are involved in tailored whole class, small group and individual activities. Activities are play based and after initial teaching input from staff, pupils are encouraged to lead their own learning using the wide variety of specialist resources we have available. Skilled early years staff support the pupils to get the most out of every learning activity. We have lots of new and exciting equipment on the early years playground to encourage outdoor learning, including a mud kitchen and a builder’s bench. Pupils will have a summary of their progress throughout the year in an online Learning Journal and this is shared with parents.
