Careers Information Education & Guidance
Woolston College, Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) is a core part of our curriculum and is embedded across all four pathways. Our programme is shaped by the CDI Framework and the Gatsby Benchmarks, ensuring that every learner accesses meaningful, structured and developmentally appropriate careers learning. Careers education at Woolston College is focused on preparation for adulthood, helping students build independence, understand workplace roles, develop communication skills and participate confidently within their community. Functional English and Maths, life‑skills and vocational learning are woven throughout the curriculum so students can apply their learning in real‑world contexts.
Students in Years 12 to 14 take part in weekly careers sessions tailored to their pathway, alongside work experience, employer encounters and transition activities that support progress towards their future aspirations. Our approach enables students to Grow, Explore and Manage their next steps in a way that is accessible, purposeful and aligned to their individual needs.
As part of our commitment to building essential skills for life and employment, all students engage with the Skills Builder Accelerator Programme. This programme breaks eight essential skills into small, teachable steps, allowing us to meet every learner at their starting point and support steady, meaningful progression. The eight essential skills are:
- Listening
- Speaking
- Problem Solving
- Creativity
-
Adapting
- Leadership
-
Planning
- Aiming High
These skills are embedded across the curriculum, within vocational learning and throughout our work‑related programmes. We are proud that Woolston College achieved the Skills Builder Silver Award (July 2024), recognising our strong, college‑wide commitment to developing the essential skills our learners need for adulthood, independence and future pathways.
