Eco Schools

The Eco-Schools Awards. The Eco-Schools Green Flag is an internationally recognised award for excellence in environmental action and learning. You can work up to Green Flag level by achieving Bronze and Silver awards which are self-accredited stepping stones along the way. Fox Wood have worked hard to achieve the Bronze and Silver award and are in the process of achieving the Green Flag. The Eco Committee, which includes a pupil from each class, meet each half term to plan, deliver and evaluate activities, tasks and themed days throughout the school. The committee regularly carries out an environmental review within our school which looks at:

  • Biodiversity

  • Energy

  • Global citizenship

  • Healthy Living

  • Litter

  • Marine issues

  • School grounds

  • Transport

  • Waste

  • Water

The committee will then discuss the results and evaluations of things that we do well, things that could be done better and topics they would like to work on within their action plan. The committee have put together the current Eco Action plan which has a big focus on recycling. Classes currently follow a rota to empty the recycling throughout the school, providing all classes of all ages the opportunity to be part of this project. Pupils take full responsibility of this role and look forward to their turn. As part of their role on the eco committee, pupils regularly conduct environment audits, which includes; checking classroom lights are switched off, unused computers are switched off, taps are not left running and recycling has been cleared.
