In order to demonstrate how we fulfil the National Curriculum requirements for Mathematics, All Fox Wood School pupils will be taking part in a Maths Challenge for each half term, which will be linked to the topic that they are studying.
The National Curriculum requires teachers to put an emphasis on transferring skills that pupils learn in the classroom into functional skills that they can use in everyday life.
This could include structured baking sessions, where pupils’ knowledge of number, size, shape, measures and quantity is challenged. Shopping visits improve spatial awareness (finding the way to the shop and finding specific items in the shop), money, number, tessellation skills (best ways of packing bags) and much more. The list is endless!
The Maths challenges for Autumn 2 include Christmas enterprises, making a celebration dish, Musical patterns, using a programmable toy to make a journey, completing tally charts and taking and dispatching orders!
