Curriculum

Enrichment

Our curriculum is enhanced throughout the year by themed weeks which allow us to further develop specific subjects for the week as they are related to a particular theme and topic. For example a theme for Arts week was Space which allowed a wide variety of educational and fun experiences. Additional information about the curriculum is available from the class teacher.

In order to further enhance our curriculum and opportunities we have a music therapist for half a day per week who works with identified college pupils individually or in a small group. An Occupational Therapist provides a sensory diet for our pupils with ASD- this information is then used by staff and parents alike. We utilise Intensive Interaction with many of our pupils who benefit from promotion and encouragement of their early communication skills.

We offer weekly enrichment activities for all of our pupils.  Our youngest pupils access Enhanced Provision which includes activities such as multi-sensory room, sensory floor, construction, sensory play, etc.  All pupils from year two onwards access weekly enrichment sessions with varied activities which change each half term, these include Lego Therapy, yoga, eco warriors, Rebound therapy, digital photography, etc.  Rebound Therapy is provided for identified pupils by trained staff from Fox Wood.

Our curriculum promotes health and well-being through focused themes such as ‘Feeling Good’ and ‘Healthy Lifestyle’.  All pupils have two hours of PE provision per week which includes activities such as PE, swimming, hydrotherapy, Sherborne, music and movement.  Sports coaches work with many of our early years, key stage 1 and 2 pupils to further develop their PE skills and abilities.  We also benefit from partnership with therapists who visit school on a weekly basis to support pupils, including physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and teachers for the visually impaired.  We have a full time occupational therapy assistant who promotes access to the curriculum and a full time nursing team who meet the medical needs of our pupils on a day to day basis.

The needs of more able learners and those who are Gifted and Talented within Fox Wood are met through differentiated activities in class-based lessons, and through Focused Support.  Focused Support sessions are conducted on a one to one or small group basis as appropriate to the activity, and aim to enable learners to progress towards specific targets.  Sessions are offered with a focus on literacy, maths, computing or communication.
